I love, love, love the look of knife painting. Some people also call it spatula painting. I am honestly not 100% sure what the correct term is so if someone knows, comment below so I can update!
I like that knife painting is abstract and messy - its organic and imperfect - & it can add so much interest to a space! It can create a focal point, bring in color to a neutral palette, and make a room feel more homey and inviting.
I originally screen-shotted the image below on August 22nd at 12:35 a.m. - I clearly couldn't sleep and was scrolling through the Instagram "discover" feed. I remember seeing this photo and saving it because I wanted the barn wall art so bad. I had no idea what it was, where I could find it, etc. (I have since found out that this artwork was painted by @deannart - click here to visit her website).
I would randomly scroll past this photo in my phone and love it every time, but I never tried tracking it down. Fast forward to October when I visited Bell Buckle, TN for an arts & crafts show and I stumbled upon this booth where a girl was knife painting and selling her work. I immediately remembered the photo I had saved in my phone and I was overwhelmed with how much I loved this knife painting business as well! I stayed in that booth looking at all of the artwork yet I never pulled the trigger and purchased ANYTHING!! What is wrong with me?? I think I was so overwhelmed that I just couldn't narrow down which one I wanted. I wanted them all!!!!
The main piece that I kept staring at while at the booth and thinking about when I left is the image below. I love this simple little house. It just looks like it should be home and I will find a place to someday hang it in my own home (my house is so small that I currently feel out of wall space).
To make a long story short, after thinking about this artwork for a month, I finally found the Facebook page for the girl at the Bell Buckle booth who deserves a name now!! Her name is Ashley Herod and you can find her page by clicking here. She is amazingly talented and has SO MANY pieces that I need! I am going to share a few of my favorites below throughout this post!
As an interior designer, my advice for anyone who loves a farmhouse chic look, find a home for a knife painted piece!
Because of my love for homes and buildings in general, I obviously select favorites that are architectural. However, I also love these cute farm animals!! I am no artist and I am not going to pretend to understand art, but I know these animals look so peaceful to me and I just LOVE them. My most favorite farm animal is the last one - this lamb is just perfect!
Please visit Ashley's Facebook page (linked again here) and like her business. Her work is so inspiring and impressive. I plan on ordering from her for Christmas this year. These would make GREAT gifts.
Thank you so much for reading!! What are your thoughts on Knife Paintings?
