Sometimes as a designer, we are called to do things that don't necessarily relate to the profession - actually many designers are involved with event planning at some point or another. We are good planners and like to be creative so if the shoe fits....! I loved planning this shower with my good friend, Haley. It is actually for my sister who is having a baby in 4 short weeks! Yikes!! We went with a mermaid theme after my sister sent me an inspiration image of some cookies she had seen that were in the shape of mermaids, starfish and seahorses. We ran with the idea! First things first - we had to design the invitations which was a lot of fun! I created the invitations using Adobe Illustrator. I obviously spent some time on pinterest searching for inspiration images and then made them my own. My sister is very girly and loves glitter so I thought the invite was fun and suited her personality. Yes - I changed the addresses and phone numbers for the sake for privacy. One thing I knew had to be at the shower was party favors! My sister-in-law is loving the essential oils trend and has been making some home remedies for a couple of months now. I asked her if salt scrub was something that she could do and luckily she agreed to help! She did such a good job creating these scrubs using sea salt, soap dye, lavender oil, and eucalyptus oil. They smelled refreshing and were pretty easy to make! The hard part was finding the perfect containers to put them in. Originally we had wanted to use little glass bottles with a cork a the top... I order some which came in tee tiny so my mom had the idea to use the tiny mason jars. I created the labels again using adobe illustrator and tried to copy the theme from the invitations to tie everything together. When we met up to put the containers together, I was surprised by my mom and sister-in-law's idea to cut out some cork sheets and put them over the lids! Duh! It made the containers fit better with the theme and were super cute! Haley was the food girl! She is talented at baking, cooking, and obviously being creative. We got together one night and searched pinterest for some fun food ideas that we could enhanced our theme! Above are the crab cakes her mom helped us make! She whipped up some homemade chicken salad and put them on crescent rolls and then we just added the "googly eyes" to make them look like crabs. When we visited Hobby Lobby, we picked up some labels so we could give each item a unique, ocean themed name! The ranch dip was Haley's favorite because the octopus is just so cute! She just cut up a bell pepper and added eyes using olives! I loved the advice cards table - "message in a bottle!" It was simple but fun and creative. We bought this jar at Hobby Lobby for 40% off!! - then we cut up some paper leaving rough edges and put out some strings to tie them off. We had so much fun planning this shower for the mom-to-be! Thank you so much for visiting!
13 For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. 14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. 15 My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. 16 Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.
