I began working at Pratt Homebuilders (www.prattliving.com) in July of 2014. For the first few months I shadowed the head interior designer of the company, and after I had learned how to conduct a meeting, I was set free to meet with my first client. Keep in mind that as I was working with buyers, I was also a full time interior design student, so it was exciting but intimidating to say the least. Through the luck of the draw, my first client was the sweetest person I could ever hope to work with, and she also had exquisite taste to boot.
Her home was built on the lake, so we took advantage of the beautiful view by installing tall ceilings with plenty of windows. She also asked for her porch to extend across the entire rear facade - YES!
My favorite part of her entire home was the kitchen. I am obsessed with the rustic transitional style, and being in the south, why not take advantage! She came up with adding stone to the back of her island all by herself and I was all for it. Being my first client, I had help from my lovely boss and we worked hard to make this kitchen everything the client wanted it to be. It all came together so beautifully from the cedar columns & pine ceiling to the white cabinets and traditional backplash - I could not have asked for a better turn out. Not to mention, the client was very pleased with her results.
As you can see, the day I got to visit, there was still work being done on the exterior. I hope to visit soon and be able to share with you the finished product as well!
Seeing this project come to life was very gratifying. After going through four years of school and designing project after project of hypothetical ideas, I finally got to see something I worked on actually come to be! I cannot even tell you how it feels to be able to improve peoples lives by helping design them a home that they can enjoy for many years! A home is such a personal place, and people actually trust me to be a part of it. It is very humbling.
I also want to share how appreciative I am that Pratt Homebuilders trust me to meet with client
